Benefits of Yoga
My practices and teachings are based on breathing exercises called Pranayama (which help to control the flow of vital energy); physical poses called Asanas (which build strength energy, and purify the body); and meditation to help calm the mind and release the divine energy in all of us, bringing in more personal harmony. Poses, meditation, and breathing; however, are but a small part of the very old philosophy of yoga which touches on everything from diet to relationships.
Through a regular yoga practice I have encouraged and guided many people from all walks of life including children, beginners, addicts, athletes, the obese and the elderly alike – on a path of trans-formative health and well being.
Benefits of Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga is a practice which will help calm the mind and emotions as the body goes through the great personal changes inerrant in each individual pregnancy, labor, and birth. Creating balance in both mind and body is a wonderful thing to strive for as the body changes rapidly during the Pre natal period. Yoga offers a sacred space and time where women can be guided to practice listening to the wisdom of their own bodies and also tap into their own instinct of what feels right for them at any particular moment.
Taking the time to be alone with your baby, in meditation, to practice stretching, muscle and vocal toning, proper posture, and or breathing techniques are all wonderful ways to help prepare oneself and ones child both physically and emotionally for birth and the post partum period.
“Yoga can relieve many discomforts of pregnancy. It increases circulation and reduces swelling, providing more blood flow and oxygen to the baby. Many times breathing becomes restricted. Yoga teaches us that we can breathe into our belly, ribs and back to maintain deep and even breathing, thus reducing stress and anxiety.
As the belly and breasts grow, lower back pain may occur. Yoga elongates the spine, stretches and strengthens the back relieving back pain, thus preparing mom for the physical demands of carrying baby before and after birth. Proper posture is important in helping to alleviate the discomforts of the changing body. Proper posture provides optimum internal space for baby, breath and all internal organs. Yoga also minimizes water retention, which causes the swelling of legs, ankles and hands, alleviates mood swings, helps control weight gain, decreases anxiety and stress, insomnia, constipation and fatigue.”
