Recognizing that the imminent birth or re birth of a mother and the benefits of honoring that transition, A Blessing Way is a special gathering and ceremony to honor the mother before the birth of the baby. Instead of showering the baby, a group of women are invited to shower the mother with special blessings at a gathering in her honor.

The mother is pampered with body oils, body rubs, foot scrubs. hair braiding, henna and or other chosen treatments. Often times  the women present bring a bead to string onto a necklace or bracelet offering blessings with their beads for a safe and speedy birth, health of the  baby, family etc. Sometimes the women present make a commitment to provide a meal and or some other kind of service on one particular day after the child is born for up to 14 days after the birth. The gathering can be pot luck at home or a catered event at any other special location.
